She became a big part of London's folk scene when her first album 'Alas, I Cannot Swim' was released in 2008 and now she is back. Laura Marling's new album 'I speak because i can' was released this week and from first listen it sounds like the now brown haired singer has taken a leaf out of 'Mumford and Sons' book and gone down an even more folky route, almost sounding like a female version of Johnny Cash. It seems Marling has matured a lot in the 2 years since her first release, which it seems has added more meaning and depth to her songs, many of which are suspected to be about her traumatic breakup with Charlie Fink of 'Noah and the Whale'."It’s probably worth noting at this point that Marling has remarked on this record as being “very much her stepping stone”, and that this autumn we are expected to see the release of a third, as-yet-untitled LP. 'I Speak Because I Can' remains a stunning performance to leave haircuts and ex-boyfriends alike trailing in its wake." (NME.com)
