Yoko Ono didn't want the money...

Today John Lennon's son, Sean Ono Lennon, announced that his mother Yoko Ono gave permission for footage of her late husband John Lennon to be used in the new Citron car advert so that he was kept "in the public consciousness". This has been announced to squash the claims that Ono needed the money and used the footage for greed rather than love.
Ono Lennon posted on his twitter: "Look, TV ad was not for money. It's just hard to find new ways to keep dad in the new world. Not many things as effective as TV."

Whether it was for money or not, the advert works and makes you stop and watch for 10 seconds to see what it's all about, however i personally think that celebrity endorsed adverts cause the person in question to loose the mysteriousness that surrounds them, so even if they successfully promote the product, they would often be better off keeping quiet in terms of promoting themselves!

Also, looking forward to watching 'Nowhere Boy', a Sam Taylor Wood film that documents the life of John Lennon (played by Aaron Johnson). It's out on dvd on 10.05.2010
